Wildflower Centerpiece

Spring is my favorite time of year. I love the feeling of when winter weather finally starts to disappear and wildflowers start to bloom. There's nothing better than finding fresh flowers on the corners of DC streets!

Today, i'm sharing some quick tips for building the perfect spring table centerpiece with wild blooms. I'm lucky in that my mom is the best at making arrangements, so I feel like I learned from the master. Check out my quick tips below: 

1. Think of a design before you buy: Before I buy any flowers, I think of what I want the centerpiece to look like. I choose the color scheme and texture well before I even go to the flower market. It can be really easy to get overwhelmed and simply choose your favorite flower. But, you have to make sure the flowers you pick go well together, so it's best to think it through first. 

2. Design for your vase: It's also important to choose the right vase. For example, with the flowers here a formal vase wouldn't fit. I chose a large mason jar because it seemed as rustic and wild as the flowers themselves. However, if i chose roses or a more formal flower I may pick a more standard vase. 

3. Choose stem height wisely: I always cut my blooms at an angle after I purchase them to make them last longer. But, it's important to make sure that when you cut them you are taking into account how they will all fit together. For example, I wanted the yellow flowers in this arrangement to stick out so I left them a little longer than some of the daises. 

4. Check your angles: Just like when you take photos, it's important to make sure that the flowers look good from every angle. Make sure to purchase more flowers than you think that you need so that you can use them in empty spaces within your arrangement. I'm a firm believer that you can never have too many (#thelimitdoesnotexist). Plus, you can always use any extras for smaller accent arrangements. 

5. Match your style: It can be so tough to not buy every pretty flower that you see. But, make sure that what you purchase matches the table, event, or house you are styling for. There's nothing worse than red roses at a cookout!
